Genre: Romantic suspense

After her promotion from law firm Runner to Investigator, Kathleen Turner is learning the ropes of her new job from none other than assassin-for-hire Kade Dennon, a situation her boyfriend Blane Kirk is none too happy about. But the lessons with Kathleen take a back seat when Kade becomes a target. Previously untouchable, his enemies now know of the chink in his armor – his brother’s girlfriend.

And Kade’s not the only thing coming between Kathleen and Blane. From Blane's inexplicable defense of a man guilty of a horrible crime, to a mysterious stranger from Kathleen's past, to Kathleen' risky investigation into human traffickers, the obstacles mount against a relationship that's just begun to find trust again.

While Blane considers a job offer that would take him back to the front lines in the war on terror, Kathleen is determined to pursue her new career, with or without his approval. Unfortunately, her current case is far more dangerous than anyone knows. Someone close to Blane will go to extreme lengths to split them up, lengths that may prove worse than death for Kathleen.

Kathleen, Blane and Kade must atone for the sins of the past and the present. The fallout will force Kathleen to a turning point...in her career, and her life.

For a former, simple runner at a law firm, Kathleen Turner sure has had a load of excitement in her life thus far. Everything changed for her after meeting current boyfriend Blane Kirk and his half-brother, Kade Dennon. In Turning Point, Kathleen is a newly-made investigator at the law firm where she and Blane work. Given Kathleen’s constant run-ins with danger, Kade has been training her in self-defense and spy tactics. She’s proving to be a fast learner. It probably helps that Kathleen’s father was a cop, and he taught her a few things, including how to shoot.

Blane’s and Kathleen’s relationship continues to flourish. It seems those two could soon get their happily-ever-after. Unfortunately, Kathleen’s life is put in danger again thanks to another of Blane’s trials. He’s involved in a high-profile case which has Kathleen perplexed. She can’t understand why Blane would defend someone who is irrefutably guilty of a serious crime. As has been usual lately, Blane’s keeping Kathleen in the dark. She’s becoming tired of this. To complicate things, Blane could be required to return to duty as a Navy SEAL before pursuing his goal: running for Governor.

As part of her new job as investigator, Kathleen goes with Kade to follow a lead he uncovered. They’re trying to identify the people behind the events of the last book. They tried to force Blane’s previous case to have a certain outcome. Kade is getting awfully close to learning the truth. This has put him in the crosshairs of the dangerous people he’s going after. And what’s worse, they seem to have wised up to Kade’s sole weakness: Kathleen.

While this is going on, Kade’s and Kathleen’s relationship is crossing the line from friendly to something more. They’ve both been attracted to each other from the start. Only, Kathleen feels loyalty to Blane, which gives her the strength to keep turning Kade down. After the latter realizes he’s putting Kathleen in danger, he tries to push her away. Kade’s intentions are fruitless, as Kathleen soon becomes involved in yet another dangerous investigation. She’s a stubborn girl, this one! Kathleen doesn’t fear the danger a case might bring if it means she can help others.

As if Kathleen didn’t have enough troubles, someone else wants to come between her and Blane. This person turns out to be close to the latter. He doesn’t approve of Blane’s relationship with Kathleen, and endeavors to end it. This was a surprising twist, as the guy seemed decent enough when he showed up in Turn to Me. He’s finally showed his true colors, making him a powerful new antagonist for Kathleen. There’s also a potential love rival for her, in the form of a Penelope Cruz-lookalike aspiring lawyer.

Things are becoming more interesting as this series progresses. While it always seemed as if Kathleen and Blane would end up together, they’re turning into star-crossed lovers. With several people opposing their relationship, will they remain a couple? I really like this book, and the characters the author came up with. Women will be interested in the Kathleen Turner series for Blane and Kade, but I’m more drawn to the titular character. She’s a tough one, for sure. If you’ve got as far as this book, I can almost guarantee you’ll finish the series. It’s remarkably thrilling and well-written. The ebook file has no errors, at least none worth mentioning.

My rating: ★★★★
